Evening Reflections on the Capitol Square
The Historic Wisconsin State Capitol Building – Completed 1917
(Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the completion of Wisconsin’s Statehouse and the 150th year of Wisconsin’s statehood)

Residents of the isthmus city of Madison were proud of their new white granite Statehouse with its classic lines, massive dome and exquisite marble rotunda. Grace Church corner on West Washington Avenue provided an ideal spot to view the Capitol, completed in 1917, and to observe shoppers frequenting the more than eighty businesses around the Square.

On this rainy autumn evening, pavement reflects recently installed electric streetlights, and horse-drawn carriages and motorcars make their way by the warm glow of their hissing acetylene headlamps through this bustling city hub. Crowding aboard clanging streetcars, citizens pay the 5 cent fare and head home from work.

Atop what is believed to be the only granite dome in the United States stands a bronze statue of a woman named “Wisconsin”, symbolizing the state motto "Forward."

With a skilled eye for historic detail, Lynn Casper celebrates the completion of Wisconsin’s Capitol Building, an architectural embodiment of the optimistic spirit of the time. This fine art commemorative edition is printed on heavy weight, all-rag, acid free pH neutral paper with the finest fade resistant inks. Each print is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
